August 8, 1927, Rockville Center, New York, to El Paso

I have received your communications, and it is with great concern that I enquire concerning the outcome of the war. Clue bloomin' blighter with his head off was a pretty picture for the first day. As far as that goes, I can see one of those confounded air – contraptions biffing you in the butt while standing peacefully in your own house. Ain't it terrible what these times are coming to. Speaking of dead towns, you should see this one most of the time. Occassionally there's something unique that goes on. I've been out with friends, riding mostly but they just resemble so many Punches and Judies and ita'y a pas rieu que vraiment imporst apres tout est dit et fait. C'est a croire que mon couer demeure impermiable a tout. Depues grand? Main an foud c'est au faits que je ue reponde plus aux peuples modernes. But here I go starting to express Ted again when I shouldn't and anyway can't since there ain't no French references. However, this town is as dormant as King Tut's recent abode. If you feel as I do about it, what d' you say we get together? I must admit that I was quite disheartened by what concerned me in your earlier letter. It seems I have had the knack of expressing myself most inopportunely. I can but heartily agree that ours was an “ideal friendship” and is ; but this explains in no way the lack I feel which now that you have gone again will not be diminished one iota whether it be another two or two hundred years. Be that as it may I was probably born to be sad and feel this way, if you coell? Anyway as I have said: “What difference makes lose or gain When maggots eat the brain ” As to the books, what a cosmopolitan array. Needless to say I have read some of them, but what I haven't will indeed make an eyefull. Now I will proceed to find out if they have a library in this town. As you have probably perceived before, I can stand an awful licking. Now to refocus on the “the great war.” We are only a couple of miles from Mineola and see every kind of craft but no wars. They should know better. I'm sure I would like to see one after your telling about how gentle they were. You know, by gar, this flying game ain't so bad. My Dad just write me my marks 3 B's, 2 C's and F Which gave me 78.1 for years average Sophomore year and 82.2 for first 2 years. Now we will see what we can do with last two. Didn't do so bad this year with 63 average for first two terms not counting flunks. When I think of that I feel better. I think I quit writing before I think of you some more. Any way this is last bit of paper in shack. Oh! send picture(s) quick because there aint no little ones no more. Its se sont evauamirs. Le meme, Ted
