January 13, 1924, Austin to Northhampton, Massachusetts

Dearest Helen,

Well, at last, after months of weary waiting, I got a letter from you, and now it seems as if it were a year ago. By the way, how many letters did you write to 27 12? I didn't get but one. If you don't start writing some, I'll be sending you some more of that stylish stationery.

That writing when you have an inspiration idea is all right – provided you get an inspiration and in a while!! I'm taking that I'll “get twice as many” as a promise, and you see that you keep it.

When I didn't hear from you for so long, and thought that all was over with us, I got desperate and framed up on you. Now, the first thing I see every morning is your lovely self (in two poses.) Here a hot tolo. Ralph was looking at your picture the other day.--”Helen takes better pictures i.e the pictures taken of you are better, than any girl I ever saw.” He said you didn't look like the sombre one very often – that you were always talking and laughing – “the kind of girl you never get tired of.” Of course I agreed with him. Ralph's got a crush on Nina Duden, of about as long a standing as mine on you; and so we confide the thoughts of our love sick hearts unto each other.

Tell Ruth that I aime you tres (don't remember which way the accent goes) beaucoup just plain beaucoup isn't strong enough.

With more love than is possible to express,

Henry.
